School Rules and Guidelines
● Each puppy parent is responsible for their own puppy.
● Be on time for the start of the class.
● Use only correctly fitted flat leads or head collars and a light, size appropriate lead on your puppy.
● If possible all people should be seated during discussions and demonstrations.
● All puppies should be kept on a lead unless the instructor advises otherwise.
● When asked, please place your puppy back on the lead.
● One person to speak at a time.
● Be mindful of other owners and their needs.
Helpful Training Guidelines
● If a puppy is too active prior to attending puppy school classes he may fall asleep and may not be receptive
to training. On the other hand, if the puppy has been at home all day and not very active, he should be
exercised before puppy school classes so that he is calm and focused. Owners should use their discretion
when deciding if exercise is required prior to attending puppy school classes.
● It is advisable not to feed a full meal shortly before puppy school sessions as it could make the puppy less
receptive to food rewards during training and may also be problematic with puppies that tend to get carsick.
● Do not tease or play games that encourage play-biting.
● Only train the puppy when he is calm and in a quiet environment. You can practice training techniques in
environments that are slightly more distracting later on.
● Keep training sessions short and stop before the puppy gets tired. End on a high note, while the puppy is doing well – this is the level at which the next session will start.
● Once the puppy responds well indoors, you can begin practicing outdoors.
● Always pay attention to the puppy’s state of mind. Never give a verbal cue if the puppy is too distracted
to respond.
Children in Class
To protect the safety of everyone in class, puppies and humans alike, please follow the guidelines below
- Children must be under parental control and supervision at all times
- As running or yelling can be disruptive and upsetting for the puppies we cannot allow this during class.
- Since not all puppies are comfortable around or friendly toward children, children should be instructed to never approach or pet any other puppy in class without permission from its handler.
We will not under any circumstances share your personal or contact details with any third party without your express written consent.
